Hi I have a male H-Erectus that I thought had maybe mated with his mate, but now I am wondering maybe during the process an airbubble was created in his pouch. He has anchored himself to a fitler tube near the surface of my tank. and when he releases from it he rises to the surface and struggles to get back down. Is there anything I can do?? It appears to be in his pouch....

this is a stable well established tank and this pair has been mating for about 6 months now. I really dont want to lose him they are such a good happy pair.

    Thnxs Iggy

Iggy, some males tend to have pouch emphysema and can be easy or difficult to remedy.
First you get a rubber tipped bobby pin and use it to GENTLY open the pouch while holding the seahorse upright under water. Normally, the gas bubbles will escape with one or two attempts.
If the problem comes back, then take a syringe with an attached cannula and using new water properly aged and matched for temperature and pH and s.g., flush out the pouch 3 or 4 times.
If it still comes back, you will have to get a vet prescription to get Diamox to flush the pouch with.
