;D :D 8) I just bought a new clam today. It's green and blue and it's about 4-5" long. I have 260 watt PC's but i've heard that they need a lot of light so is that enough. What do they eat? Just use sunlight or what? Are they hard to take care of. I have a yellow polyp, a brittle star, a turbo snail, 4 hermits, and 50 nassuarius snails. Will any of those things hurt the clam.

It sounds by the colouring that you have a Crocea Clam. It requires the most light of all the clams and is the most difficult to keep. Personally I wouldn't attempt a clam without MH lights and a very stable system.
Clams light calcium and a lot of light. They filter feed on phytoplankton and don't mind a little bit of Nitrate.

    Fire, ready, aim!

Not to bust your chops, but those are awesome questions before you go the LFS. Hope the impulse buy doesn't suffer a terrible fate.

I say you take it back or get MH immediately. I hate to know a nice crocea died. Got a question for you. What did the LFS guy tell you about the clam?

but i have 260 watts which is 4.7 watt/gal. Isn't that enough. Will my brittle star hurt it because I have heard that starfish hurt bivalves. Could I put my clam towards the top of my tank. Does it do better on my sand or my LR.

Power Compacts are not Metal Halides. Not enough light to support the xoanthalea. Your sterfish will find it no matter where you put it.

i mean put it towards the top to compensate for the light. I read that brittle stars don't bug corals or any other things. They just eat detrius and algae.

Maybe it'll make it. Brittle stars are sneaky little suckers. Keep an eye on the brittle star.

Placing it higher in the tank will only stall the inevitable in most cases. What is the PAR rating for your lights? We'll hope for the best.

Barry at www.clamsdirect.com would be a good resource to ask.
