I got my blue hippo tang on Sunday afternoon. She seemed to be doing fine until today. I went to feed my fish a couple hours ago and she appeared okay at the time. I just looked at her and she has the white spots all over her and is rubbing against the rocks. Her eyes dont appear too cloudy. But its obvious that she has ich. WHAT DO I DO?? My lps generally tells me not to turn my tank into a mixing bowl. Should i get some kind of medicine? I heard raising the temp will kill ich.. is this true? Someone please help, my tank is about 2 months old. I have 2 false percula clowns, a six line wrasse, and just got the hippo tang. I keep my temp at 78, my salinity at 1.022, my ph is 8.2-8.4, i have no ammonia or nitrites. Idk what the problem is or how to solve it. Please help me. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.:-/:-/

Is the hippo eating? If so soak the food in garlic and add vit. C to the tank. If you do this and the Hippo eats well, it will be fine. I have been through this with my Hippo. It will pass in time. If you raise your salinity up to 1.025 this will help, do it slowly. You could also bump your temp up to 80, slowly as well.

i wouldn't mess with the salinity even if a change in salinity would negatively effect the ich, it would stress the fish.. unless you decide to do hypo salinity treatment. but if its not bad just focus on garlic and vit c.

The hippo was eating fine today (which is when i first noticed the spots) But how do i add the garlic? Like what kind of garlic? Does the fish need to eat the garlic or will the garlic in the tank kill the ich?

If you have a hippo it will at some point have ick. First take a deep breath your hippo will be ok. Mine has had it a few times. First turn your temp to 82F and then over feed it go to the lfs and get a food with garlic and then make sure its comfy! it will be ok. I would say 9 of 10 times they are ok when this happens. its from the stress of the move. I would also turn your lights off for long periods of time to make it feel safer also reducing its stress level. These things should get you one the right path to recovery. I have never trated any of my fish for ick with anything other then this regiment if there was ever a problem. Good luck

The only way to truly get rid of iche is to use a copper type of medication, like coppersafe. You have to only use it with fish tank only, no corals or inverts from what I believe. It worked for me.

i was told the same thing about the copper, but i have several inverts and cant afford to set up a hostipal tank at the moment.
