My water is 80 degrees and specific gravity of 1.026 which gives me a salinity of 36ppt and a temp that is what most Ondo-Pacific reefs are normally. My tank is an Indo-Pacific tank. My tank is 80 degrees year 'round.

well that extra fan didnt do the trick either, It still gets up to 83.9 before it stops rising , So I bought 2 more fans, I dont know if im going to mount them both in the top near the back and blow cool air in or mount them in the sides with one sucking in and one blowing out, I think im going to mount them in the top and blow them both in since all 3 of my other fans are blowing out.

Let us know how it goes! Blowing them "in-line" should help.

    Fishez,

Sorry if you have already answered this but did you ever move the thermometer further down in the water and get a reading?

What are the dims of the tank?

    DSB?

    How much rock?

What do you estimate the water volume to be tanking into account the rock that you have and the thickness of the substrate?

How far above the water surface are the lights?

My own tank is only about 40 galls and I live in a house without AC at the moment. The temperatures that my tank will get to are unknown to me as it is only fairly new and I haven't lived here for that long so I can't tell.

My heater is set to 75F for that reason, as I think I need the extra few degrees of buffer for those very hot days.

Just another thought, it would be interesrting to know what the air temp is inside the canopy. If you have a spare thermometer maybe you can place it in there ( not in direct light ), with the fans blowing and read the air temp. I think that should tell you whether air circulation will actually help lower the temps.

Last question from me for today, I promise :)

What is the temp in the morning, before the MH lights come on?

I never did move the thermometer but ill try to do that tomorrow - about 3" DSB - about 10LBS of rock right now - I would say about 75 gal af actual water volume in the tank - the lights are 8 1/2 inches above the water line - the temp in the morning before the lights come on is around 80. Im not sure what the air temp is inside the hood when the lights are on , ill try to check that out. It stoped raising at 83.9 , If i can get it to a constant 82 I will be happy.

    Fishez,

Yes, please just try moving the thermo down to the bottom just so we can see if there is a difference in the temps.  My thinking is that the thermometer may be picking up radiant heat from the lights and not the actual water temperature, if that makes sense?

Also would be interested in the actual dimensions of the tank, being from OS 90 galls means nothing to me in real terms :)
