I can't stand companies that do not stand behind their policies. I tried ordering a few things from them yesterday. I wanted to try a different company. I submitted the price from a competitor with a screen shot. They said the sale was too good and would not price match it. They stated it had to be a pricing error. Basically, if there is a significant sale, they will not price match. I had this happen to me at Lowes before trying to price match with Sears. An employee told me that he would not price match because Sears was offering a great deal. I went to a manager and he apologized for the confusion and honored his company's policy. This wasn't the case with Marine Depot. My first experience with them turned out to be horrible. I just wanted to let other members know.

Fortunately for me, I still had the items in my cart with the other company. I went ahead and placed the order today for the sale price.

What items were they refusing to price match? I have never even heard of Marine Depot refusing to price match. I do know there are some issues in there rules, but for the most part they always honor. There just must be more to it.

Not really more to it. I offered to get confirmation from their competitor that the item was offered at that price. I also provided a screen shot of it in my cart. They basically stated that they would lose money. Keep in mind that the item wasn't expensive. It wasn't an Ecotech powerhead or LED lights. The item was less than $30. I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but I hate when a company has falsely advertises their policies. I guess it is the principle behind it. It takes some effort to research other companies policies and sales only to be denied. There were a lot of great sales for Black Friday and a lot of companies lost money on certain items (door busters). They made up for it by increasing sales on other items and gaining future business. I tried to do this by ordering more items and planned to order more in the future.

I guess I need to stop worrying about price points. I went to a LFS yesterday for the first time. The people that own it seemed very knowledgeable. I will try to make a better effort to support local business.

Did you speak to a manager as you did with Lowes?

Yesterday was black friday, not being rude but I know of at least 10 stores off the top of my head that wouldn't price match yesterday.

No, the CSR told me he asked his supervisor and was told that they would lose money. Therefore, they would not be honoring their own policy. I asked to have the email forwarded to a different supervisor for review. Hopefully, they will start honoring their policy prior to Cyber Monday (at least for the other members that are still interested in doing business with them).

They advertised that they would match other stores. If you look at Marine Depot's Black Friday ad (center), it has their low price guarantee logo and states that they have strengthened it. Even if they didn't advertise a low price guarantee specifically for Black Friday, they should remove their policy for that day or have in their policy that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are exceptions. It is a bait and switch type tactic. They get people to try their business through low price guarantees and then do not honor them. It just isn't the right thing to do. They may have lost a few dollars on the sale, but they had an opportunity to have a long term customer.

Not to call you out, but I would like to know 3 stores that had price match policies that would not honor them yesterday. Just curious

So basically this issue is still being resolved as you have not heard back per their second supervisor?
