Yes, LEDs should be half the watts.

Just to make sure I am understanding correctly. If I need 12 watts of florescent lighting I only need 6 watts of LED? How many watts do I need to = two sided screen only doing one side lighting. I would like to use a 6 x 8 screen? Would I need 48 watts? I appreciate your help.

If the guideline says 48 watts, then you need 24 watts of LED. This would be 12 watts on each side of a 2-sided screen. For the same filtering on a 1-sided screen, all 12 watts would go on one side of a 6 X 8 screen. This would probably by four 3-watt 660nm stars.

For biocube or any other nano, as long as you can shine a light through the back wall, you can make it work.

Are all magnets reef safe? I want to use magnet instead of suction cups to hold screen to acrylic.

I just put LEDs on my scrubber a couple days ago. I have a combo of 5:1, 660nm reds to 450nm royal blues, 12 LEDs per PAR38 bulb, one on each side. When it comes to LEDs, wattage is not the factor you want to use, crees have more power at the same wattage than bridgelux, so the rule does not work. I would say 12 Bridgelux per square foot, or 6 crees (to keep the color combo). Optics are not needed, but I do have 90 degree optics on mine, just to keep the light from spilling. So far I have what took about a week with cfl in a couple days, keep in mind my ats is not established yet, so it is not a lot of algae yet.
