My tank is doing great 77 at night to around 79.5 in the heat of the day. I do mean HEAT of the day out here in Phoenix;D. I guess the new windows throughout (triple pane Low E) are making a difference. AC does not have to work as hard. I have 2 ice cap fans mounted in my canopy. I am running PC's and reg t8's.8)

Tank stays 79.1 to79.5 all day long with a 1/3hp chiller no matter how hot the house gets. I run a programmable T-stat for the house to save money and not cool the house during the day while I'm not home and while we sleep.

    Tip:

Don't wait till water temp starts to exceed limits you have set before turning on fans.

If you have a canopy over tank...run one fan into it or out of it 24/7 on warm days...one of those 6-8 inch ones available at any hardware or computer store works great.

Will help disperse light heat buildup before it really starts to warm up water.

Will delay time other fans needed and decrease time to turn off.

Keeps temp in my tanks at a much cooler average temp on warm days....8)

Ohhh I feel bad for you!!! :-/ I live in Denver, too. My GOD it has been roasting lately. My tank is doing fine, steady at around 80 to 81. I'm not doing anything special, although I do have central air. Plus my tank, sump, and fuge are all uncovered. I evaporate 2-3 gallons PER DAY

I have always kept my tank around 82-83 so the summer heat is not such a big deal for me as the temps are already high, but I do use a fan regardless. (evaporation is out of control 1gal x 2 days

my tank stays between 75-78 and i still use 5gal RO every two weeks. so we're almost in the same boat. i don't have a lid, 100% open at the top. only had one incident w/ a fish jumping out, and he happened to land in the built in filter which has about 4" of water at the top. dunno know how long he was there but he made it.

I voted yes because I finally found the formula to keeping my tank under 81 degrees without a chiller - though, I do have tons of algae everywhere, which will hopefully be resolved after I start adding a cleaning crew.
