Interceptor treatment.

I found a vet an hour away thanks to a reef club member that was able to sell me 12 of the 11-25lb tablets. Not optimal but it is why I can get due to the current production hault.

I am treating my roughly 220 gallons of actual water volume. I have a small balck dot on the underside of my monti caps that I can see moving and I can see a visual tissue damage as well. I have looked around and interceptor seems my best chance.

I am thinking I will use 3 tablets for each of the 3 rounds. How long should I let the medicine run before running carbon? And how Lon should I wait before a w/c and how big?

 

Should I just go ahead and use 4 per round or would it be better to be able o run a 4th round if I don't feel like I got them all?

 

I don't believe 3+ treatments are necessary, and neither do many people these days. Many people claim 1 treatment is enough; I've always done two.

You really don't want to overdose on this; there's no need. You may end up harming crustations you're better off keeping.

The smaller pills are throwing me off a bit, but in consideration of the large pills, 1/3 of a pill is all I needed for 120 total gallons of my system. You'll want to shut off your carbon (and any other reactors) and plug the airline of your skimmer for 12 hours. About an hour or two after adding the interceptor I always turned my reactors back on for a few minutes, to circulate some treated water through them. Ultimately, you want treated water to end up in contact with all parts of your system, but you don't want to remove the interceptor while it's still functional. After 12 hours, bring all your equipment back online. Do a follow up treatment 5-7 days later. At this point, I'd do a 20-30% water change. Some people recommend a water change after each treatment, but I never have; only after the 2nd treatment.

If you have any hermits or shrimp you want to save, you'll need to remove them for the treatment period. The only shrimp I know of that's capable of surviving is a CBS (assuming you don't overdose).

crush pill into a fine powder. dissolve in ro di water, turn off skimmer pumps and other media, remove your carbon for like 7-8 hours i believe. and then do a 25% water change. repeat dosage one week later i did and worked well.

Also when i did my dose, no inverts were affected, i have blood shrimp and harlequin shrimp and peppermint shrimp. All came out fine.

 

Alright, did some checking on the dosage real quick:

One large pill (51-100 lbs) is 23mg. This is good for 400g of water.

Your pills (11-25 lbs) are 5.75mg each.

So each of your pills will treat 100g of water.

 

I believe the treatment calls for .025g per 10G of actual tank volume. That is figures from the origonal red bug treatments thread on reefs.org

I know further discussions has the treatment amounts tested at greatly higher level with success.

I'm curious thought, what you have described does not sound like red bugs. can you actually see red bugs?

No. I do not have red bugs. I have some sort of strange dark pepper sized (amphipod?) things crawling on the under side of my monti colonies. I also have some tissue damage around the edges. The lfs I buy from came by and suggested a thread to me that looks just like what I have. The lfs used interceptor to rid themselves and so did this guy in the rc thread I read. So I am going to give it a shot.
