I think I am out

I re-started my tank in January. Everything was going as planned, tank cycled, went through the diatoms, started to get a little green hair algea.
bought a clean up crew from John at reefcleaners. Kept my few Damsels that I have had for 6 years. Added a Kole Tang, and he was doing great. Clean up crew starts doing its job. Tested params on a regular basis, along with water changes. Later added a Tomini Tang. Took a little while for the Tangs to get along, but they did. Everything was great, everyone getting along, and everyone eating well. All of the sudden, the Kole looked pale, and in 2 days was dead. No ich noticed. 2 days later, the Tomini gone. Now I have been losing a fish a day. I cannot figure out what is wrong. I have checked params, checked for stray voltage...cannot diagnose the problem. If I lose the last 3. I am going to condense my 3 other freshwater tanks into the 150. I give up.

Some pathogens/disease do not display drastic physical symptoms like Marine Ich.

 

Just don't know where it came from...I completely started clean. Quarantined the fish I added...Totally stumped.

 

Don't give up man. I'm still trying to figure out why I lost nearly $1K worth of clams in 3 weeks. Its a tough expensive hobby but very rewarding. I'm sure we all have had livestock that's died for unknown reasons.

 

I don't give up easy, but I am now scared to put ANYTHING in there. I don't have the resources to start again either. I have been thinking about downsizing from 4 to 1. Just thought it would be the other way around (lose the fresh, and keep the salt).

 

so sorry to hear about this Rob. I understand feeling that way though, been there before. I hope your fish stabilize and you don't have any more losses.

 

Well, just walked by the tank, and found another one gone. All I have left, is the Clown, and the P.J. Cardinal, and I cant find him. Looks like this is the end.

 

I'm really sorry to hear this But please don't give up. My tank completely crashed late last year, and I basically restarted since almost all of my corals, and all of my CuC and fish died. Now I'm battling Caulerpa and a bunch of different types of algae, so I'm starting from scratch again, but luckily most of my corals and my 1 Chromis are still alive. ibefishy is right; It can be tough and expensive, but, to me, it's all worth it in the end.

 

Thanks, but I cant handle it again...Love the hobby, but cant take the stress anymore. I was so successful for the first three years, but then things went south. Thought a restart would bring the same success, and in 3 months, I am right back where I was. Thanks for the kind words though!

 

Dude Reef keeping is a roller coaster ride. I've felt that way more than once. The time we went on vacation wife turned the AC off in the middle summer. The time I had to go work in NC for three months and forgot to turn on the ATO, burnt up the pump, uv light, skimmer pump, and another pump I had for the chiller. The time where I had an anemone decided to walk and to get sucked up in a power head and die causing the tank to crash. Ultimately the decision is yours. I've learned that IMHO its best to set it do regular water changes, maintenance and keep my hands out of it. Less changes the better.
