What brand Carbon and GFO?
What products are you using to maintain Cal, Alk, and Mag?

 

Brown jelly disease - about the only thing to do is to aggeressively frag the healthy tissue off. And if the coral touched any other, that one is at risk too.

 

I don't use a denitrator. So that's probably not the issue.

 

Wouldn't everything be affected by stray voltage?

 

I bought all of that from Bulk reef supply. I can't remember the brands but I think some are salifert and the others are BRS brand.

I only have the test kits for what I showed.. Please tell me any other info you might need and I will order what ever test kits that are needed.

I don't have a stray voltage thing, but I can buy it if you guys think it's necessary.

 

I always dip all my corals. Wouldnt that technically fix that problem?

 

In the SPS world, Alk is the most important test there is. I recommend LaMotte brand test kit over any aquarium company test like for this or just buy a Hanna checker. The LaMotte is expensive at first but becomes cheaper down the road when you buy refills of the reagents instead of the whole kit.

 

Woah!!! That is rough stuff. It is possible there is way too much light? Or not enough flow.

I love, and hate, SPS coral for this exact reason. A tank can be just as beautiful without it IMO

 

Besides checking what everyone else has said, I started out with corals in a similar fashion, no fish. If you shine a flashlight at night, and see amphipods on the receding areas, that is at least part of the problem. I used to see the same recession, and I was getting really frustrated to the point where I didn't know what to do or test. Since I got a male Melanurus, I have not seen one amphipod and have absolutely no recession. It's like night and day as far as I'm concerned.

 

There are a lot of amphipods (little shrimp like things right?) walking around everywhere. i never thought they could be the cause of my problem. Do you think the problem is that since their population is so big because no one is eating them they are eating at the coral?

I don't even have to shine a light to see them, or even strain my eyes to find them. When I was checking the SPS on the picture two climbed on my hand.
But shouldn't all the SPS coral be dying at the same time if they are to blame?

Also, I haven't gotten fish because its so much we have to submit to get approved for fish. Even if they are just for decor and not research they still require us to prove the fish will be happy, not stressed, and what not.

I just don't see what could kill a coral so fast. I understand that if my all might be off that could cause a death but that fast?

The only thing that fits is something eating them, or something about my tank that could kill them in 3 days. I have 3 other favias (small frags) that aren't affected. Which is why I'm so puzzled.
It's only certain ones....
