Not really, people keep clams in picos. Keep mind the smaller the volume of water the more unstable it is. Large clam types like Derasa, Gigas, Squmoasa can quickly out grow small tanks. Clams as they grow require supplemental additions of calcium and buffers as well trace elements such as mag and strontium, these can quickly be depleted in nano and pico tanks.

Old thread but wanted to get some movement in the clam section.

I have a gold maxima and a Derasa. Both are about and inch. Had for 2
Months. My maxima is dull in color and mantle doesn't come out as far as my Derasa. I know they are different but I see tons of maxima photos where the mantle hangs over the shell. Just think mine is young and will grow. Did spot feed both and they liked it. Except bad algea breakout.
I might start my own thread for my 2. Just to get more action in the section.

    None.

While clams look great in other people's tanks, like SPS corals, I've never had the ambition to keep them in mine. :D

And it's a good thing, because I am telling you it's an addiction. Two things I miss the most are clams and anemones.

    Paranoid.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night from worrying that the clam would get stung and die.

You're right! In only a couple months into having clams and love them. Thinking of asking my wife to get me a clam for my 40th bday in April. Ha!! Don't know if that's sad or awesome.

I think a clam on your 40th is perfect! I bought a tiny baby clam a while back and was checking them out today at the LFS, they sure are beautiful. I'm always tempted - their coloration is so awesome!
