Every morning I wake up and shuffle over to my tank to see what everyone is doing and to make sure that my anemone didn't wander in the night; it hasn't yet and it's been a few months! Each morning I am greeted by Betsy my Long Horned Cowfish, she does an awkward little dance, chases my finger, and in general makes me smile. I love this fish, I repeat, I LOVE this fish. Her antics are appreciated by anyone that visits, less so by my husband who she spits water at when he opens the top. This morning when I went over and Betsy swam to the front she was missing one of her front horns. I was shocked, outraged and very worried. She seemed to be in good spirits but I wanted to cry. So of course I frantically searched the internet, cursing the fact that there isn't WebMD for fish. All the while trying to figure out who the culprit was that mutilated my precious Betsy. Was it my pair of coral banded shrimp that have recently started to hang out together in a corner of my tank, did they plot this? Was it a rogue hermit crab jealous of my love for her? Of course all my bungling about woke my husband, who looked at me in horror when he saw what my laptop was open to and he could only say, "If I have to do a water change while you're at work, you need to measure out how much of what you want in there." He calmed me and kept me from swearing vengeance on Betsy's tankmates and at that point I realized that I had spent almost an hour stressing out about a fish that was behaving normally and not showing signs of distress. I feel like I have officially become a crazy fish lady. My beloved Besty is doing fine and my husband is giving me hourly updates while I am away from her. Just had to share my revelation.

It doesn't sound crazy to me it just sounds like somebody who loves her tank! I also get up every morning if it isn't to see the kids its to take a look at the tank... Even if the lights aren't on I still try to see if everything is ok and make sure everything is running ok. It's funny that my 8 year old daughter names all the fishes and a while back one of the yellow tail damsels died and while she was at school I raced to the LFS to get another one so when my daughter got home she would see all the fish doing great in tank.

your story made me laugh :) I really liked: Was it a rogue hermit crab jealous of my love for her? I think I'm a crazy fish lady too - you're not alone :)

Often times I'll wake up in the middle of the night just to check my tank. Flashlight close by. :)
