herbal ich attack

Has anyone tried kordons herbal ich attack? I've read about it and it's supposed to be free of all chemicals that hurt inverts. I'm reluctant to use it as I've been using garlic for now. My baby hippo tang has been slowly getting better.

 

I would be reluctant to use it in a mixed reef with many corals.

If your tang is eating, and you have taken into account the reduction of stress as the primary contributing factor to fish exhibiting symptomatic Marine Ich than I would continue to enhance it's diet with marine algae and products such Seclon.

If you have not researched the link below it would be a good idea, I am pretty sure the contents are a better intervention for Marine Ich than Herbal remedies.

Everybody in the tank is doing great and eating like pigs. No one else is showing signs of ich.I'll keep up the garlic with food and let there immune system do the rest. Thanks coralline

I used it, but I wouldn't advise it, especially in your case. If its 1 fish and he's eating, leave it at that. While it didn't kill any of my corals, they sure didn't like it.

As of now, quinine sulfate (prazi-pro) is about the best remedy for crypto we've found, esp. with resistant strains.

The "natural" remedies containing tea tree oil, etc. really don't work very well, IME. Additionally, the garlic is not CURING the crypto, but may be boosting the fish's immune system. Beta glucan is very good for this, as is vitamin C.

That being said, if your fish seems to be improving, and it's just a few cysts, I'd hold fire on any treatment beyond what you're doing.

 

My hippo tang is looking better everyday and is full of life. Everybody else looks great too. Not everybody is a fan of the garlic but I offer a wide variety of food to please them all. I'm going to keep garlic in there diet since it's good for the immune system. Thanks everyone for all the help.

 

No harm can be done by garlic if you use common sense, the same can not be said for remedies for Marine Ich.

Hopefully if you stay the course the fish will become more resistant and the degree or severity of the parasite will diminish. Of course if stress reduction with a focus to not over crowding, avoid fish aggression and maintaining water quality is observed.

 

Get herbtana and Artemiss follow directions on bottle , it worked great to get rid of ick and velvet my fish were all sick , you have to start dosing as soon as possible make sure you get both meds , both are reef safe and work together

 

SS, you may want to be cautious in terms of continuing to use garlic as a food staple for the fish. I remember asking how much garlic to use on this forum and one response indicated that garlic long-term can potentially cause some damage. I don't remember who responded with that but it does make sense, too much of a good thing over the long run may be harmful...
