One of the heads of my frogspawn was deflated for three days and I noticed it is now dead, half the tissue missing. When I picked the piece up the rest of the tissue floated away. Any ideas? I have heard of peppermint shrimp but both have been in the tank for a month together, no problems.

Can you list your water parameters? You may also want to google brown jelly disease to see if that could be the problem.

Looked up brown jelly, I did not see anything like that but maybe you don't see it. I looked at the rest of my frogspawn and shrooms and alas and saw nothing.
    Thanks BigJim

Can I ask how old your tank is and what test kits you are using? The nitrite should really be zero if your tank is completely cycled, but some test kits are better than others, so it could be a false reading. If only one head died, I would lean more towards disease or something eating it. Hopefully some of the more experienced members will be around some time soon to offer more advice.

how long have you had the frogspawn? If it is not brown jelly disease maybe it got cut somehow? These are very easy to have their tissue get cut and develop an infection. You might want to go ahead and dip the remaining heads with lugols solution

Tank is lik 4 months oldi believe the NO3 is so high on the test kit due to the pH being off. I just started skimming a week ago. Getting some dip tomarrow anything for bac infections ok? I noticed my coral banded shrimp pick a piece of mysis off him a few days ago, maybe pinched it huh?

yeah he could have nicked it, it is hard to say. I would just get Lugols solution to treat it. Lugols is fairly inexpensive, easy to use, and very effective. It is a broad spectrum treatment!

Lfs did not have Lugols but I got melafix by API, I set up a small dip using 5 cups of water and .5ml. A second head of frogspawn was also infected and once in the solution pieces started falling off. I swirled it a bit and used a turkey basted to remove loose (infected flesh). Total loss of flesh was about half. After 5 min. In dip I placed back in tank. Frogspawn is looking great after only 10 min. Full extention of "uninfected" head and the second head is extended well considering. Looks better than it has in a week.:). Hope it worked, thanks for helping out as always, 3REEF

Total death all three heads are now gone. Second and third heads just disappeared over night. I guess melafix did not work as well as I had thought. No brown jelly looking stuff though, just heads are gone.
