Fin nipping or Fin rot??

Hey guys, It seems that I came back to my apartment to more problems than my final exams.

I found my betta fish like this today



Im not sure whether this is fin rot, or if my African Dwarf frogs are nipping away at his fins.. Can you guys tell what this might be?

There are two different African Frogs. A dwarf Frog which will only grow one and a quarter inch and are very docile.The other is the African Clawed Frog which can grow to the size of a dinner plate.They are predatory and do not make good tankmates especially with a slow moving Betta. I would remove the frogs.

 

So you think the frogs nipped him? I did not notice them doing it before. It was only this past week I went home for a week and did not feed for the duration. Maybe thy were just very hungry? It could of been my fault for not taking them home.

They were sold to me as dwarf, however I do see the resemblance and possible confusion at petco if they did make a mistake.
Is there a way for me to tell? I don't think petco will want their frogs back ( plus it cost me a lot more to go return them than the $.45 cent frogs). and I have no were to put them other than that tank... Not sure what should I do with them?

I would return them if I have to but I'd rather not if possible.

 

If they are larger then 1 1/2 inch they are not dwarf frogs. After looking again at your picture the one in the foreground looks like a dwarf as the clawed frog does not have the webbing in between its front fingers.Check to make sure both have this webbing.I guess it is possible for them to pick on a fish if they are hungry but the dwarfs are usually docile. If you haven't observed the Betta for a while and eliminate the frogs as the culprit it is safe to assume its fin rot.Make sure to keep up with your tank maintenance as frogs can be messy.Good luck!
