Elegance Owners

Don't count all Indo Elegance corals out we got hold of a good one. Here are some pictures of our Indo Elegance Coral the mother colony and its offspring which is doing well. We bought it right after Hurricane Rita came through in 2005. We currently have a Percula Clown hosting in the mother colony.

 

When they bagged the coral how did they put in in the bag ? And what if anything did they do with the coral before removing it from their tank to put in bag ?

I caught the female she took the wild ride down the toilet and the male is trap smart and still in tank but never bothers anything now . They spawned in and on the clam would actually go into the intake and also tried to get into the elegance oral opening . I hate a damn clown fish of any type .

I lost one of these corals also... just bad luck I guess like anything else. I did read that these corals used to be much more hardy several years ago but that the more recent harvest's have come from much deeper waters. This could possibly be one piece to the puzzle, but on the other hand, I've only been reefing about 2 years son I don't know much at all.

 

See this is what I mean I started to hear the same rumors 10 yrs ago about 2000 or so , Again I sent Otty his from my collector and all who ever had a hand on it was us and I suggested to Scot as to had to deal with it on his end . His was indo .. And I sent another to a guy who seldom comes here anymore a Elegance from the Australian waters and that one is doing great also and has dropped off several little clones as Mine was doing just before I was unable to walk or get the basement to the reactors and sump for almost 1.5 yrs . My wife did what she could but its a little to mechanized and to many reactors and solenoids and valves for her I love her dearly and she is very well informed and experienced with Marine aqura but mechanicals are not her strong suit! But hey I can't type so see Its all in the game

 

When they bagged it they used a second bag to grab it than put that one in the bag with it. I did the same to put it in the tank. Other than that I didn't see them do anything.

 

You may be o.k at least they did not grab it with bare hands But when they are to be touched and or moved you always have to shadow then make them close up as much as possible before moving them . I will as my collector told me long ago he shadow then to get them to pinch and close up as much as they will then he places a black sheeting over then to make them totally close up tighter then ****s hat band and then they do not see the light of day until they arrive at their destination .

They do not like strong flows they do not like to be set in cracks of the rocks at mid tank or higher , they should be buried on the bottom in the sand in a vertical position about 2/3 rds of the skeleton in the sand and with enough alternating water flows to keep them waving and swaying feed once a month a chunk or raw bait squid or shrimp , Once set in place never move it and Strontium levels should be elevated about 5% over NSW levels Stront is hard to test for as it mimics Calcium so closely . But with enough testing you will figure that out , No detectable traces of NO3 and or PO4.. Now there are exceptions to the Elegance rules but all in all elegance I have ever kept did very well as did the ones I sent to others to have ..

 

I've had my elegance for the better part of a year now and as mentioned above, it's a decent barometer of tank conditions.

Here it is at night. I love night photos. During the day it's cream colored with pink tips.

 

Awesome, it sounds like I'm on the right track than. I'll remember to get it closed up before ever touching it again. It seems to be loving the flow it's in right now. I run my MP10 on reef crest so it sits at rest most the time and when the pumps ramps up its tentacles wave gently in the flow. It's definitely opened more than it was at the store.

Great info here guys.always wanted one but was scared..after reading this post I may just give it a try.....Reefsparky great pics.......tangster I will use that advice when at the LFS when they bag it....well that is if or when I get there....mikejrice congrats on the new addition...
