1 night of being kept all night with stabbing eye pain, 12 hours in ed. 8000cc of liquid flushed through my eye.......transfered from Depaul to SLU, 2 eye specialist being called in= a very painful palytoxin poisoining (very swollen face also). This picture is AFTER all the flushing.....it was much worse previously.

    Day 2:
Facial swelling decreased. Very Sensitive to light. Her eye hurts bad. On the other hand you can clearly see from her facial expression, the Vicodin feels just fine. LOL

My goodness, that looks awful. And I don't believe that this is the first time she's had issues with zoas is it? Hope she feels better soon but until then, hooray for Vicodin!

To everyone......thanks for the well-wishes. I'll make sure she knows all of you are thinking of her.

Yes. They thought she had seriously scratched her cornea but there was no scratch. Once they found there was no scratch, she told them about zoanthids/palythoa and how they produce palytoxin and they have special toxicology websites available to them......then THEY freaked out. That's when she got to travel by ambulance to a different hospital. LOL

There's a lot of truth to this. Most zoanthids have very little compared to palythoa. Even then, when it comes to palythoa, the two with the most are the Grandis and the Toxica. In my opinion, these are fairly ugly. LOL However, I don't want people to think that as long as they don't touch zoanthus, sea mats, palythoa, etc., they are fine. ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS......ALWAYS!!! NEVER TOUCH YOUR EYES, NOSE, MOUTH WHICH CONTAIN MUCUS MEMBRANES UNTIL YOU'VE WASHED YOUR HANDS.....NEVER!!! There are sponges that absorb palytoxin from the surrounding waters and keep it for defense, there are macroalgaes that absorb it just because their thallus operate as an osmotic membrane, and there are a few animals that are immune to the toxin and purposely use the toxin in their own defenses.

Yes. Honestly, as I tell all my students NOBODY should EVER touch their face with their hands or Mr. Taylor gets sick and takes it out on you.
