Well, hate to say it but the little guy died. I'll be leaving the tank cashless for about 8 weeks. After I confirm the perimeters are in check, what kind of inverts do you think would be ok? If like to get some corals going while the tank is ridding itself of ich.

    Sorry. :-/

Get some xenia or soft corals to give the tank some movement and just wait it out for 6-8 weeks. Keep feeding your hermits a tiny amount of food. Perhaps try some ornamental shrimp.

Sorry for your loss. Just some advise from someone who just completed an 61 day fallow period due to brooklynella. If you are going to add anything during the fallow period do it right away then wait the 8 weeks. I added an emerald crab and coral about a week or two into it then realized (ah shoot) what if I added ick and the likes with a trace of the water and now should I start all over counting the fallow period (after all waiting is a big investment mentally wise). In the end, I did not restart the count and after 2 weeks of fish back in tank all looks good (knock on wood) BUT I drove myself crazy thinking during the whole time did I mess up my fallow period. Just something to help your sanity.

Thanks to all for the great tips. Lesson learned: don't buy from LFS with dirty tanks. You'll probably get something in there you don't want. Also set up a qt.

Dirty tanks doesn't necessarily mean the fish are not healthy ;) What is more important is to peruse the whole store and see the health of all fish. If you find many sick or dead fish then I agree, best to shop elsewhere. Otherwise, have the LFS feed any fish you intend to purchase. If it doesn't eat (mouthing food and spitting it out doesn't count of course), then move on.
