I would say it covers the basics of reef chemistry. I'm not sure what you mean by advanced. Chris Brightwell's book gets pretty advanced. John Tulloc's book covers a lot of intermediate info as well as a little advanced stuff.

If you need a really in-depth analysis I would look at the science library of a local university for marine biology and/or marine geology books. Hobbyist books will provide some information, but don't go beyond a general look at the chemistry of sea water.

The chemistry of reefs varies vary slightly from place to place, which isn't a problem for most fish and corals I've heard of, but might interest a die hard chem geek for some reason :) Might also play a role in setting up a very exact biotope for a species tank.

The major "synthetic" salt mixes seek to approximate the worlds reef as an average often with minor tweaks their chemists/biologists think will provide some benefit. Most of them offer a guaranteed analysis that will list the minimums and/or maximums of their mixes, but the exact ratios are either unstable from batch to batch or propitiatory. Again, for the purpose of the marine aquarium keeper it's a small consideration - but the information is available.
