I have seen people on 3reef and at LFS set up and stock a frag tank in a matter of hours and days at most.

Just wondering if there is no need to cycle frag tanks?

    Heavy skimming avoids it?

    Thanks,

It depends on what type of filtration you will be using. If you are planning on setting it up with no fish, no substrate and no live rock then I see no need for a cycle. You could throw a wet dry or canister filter that has un-used media and a skimmer on it. If however you are planning on using live rock as filtration it either has to be pre-cured or you will need to cycle because of the die off.
