I'm thinking about making my own aragocrete and was wondering how much of each material (portland cement, crushed coral/aragonite sand, water softener salt) would I need to yield 150lbs or the equivalent of 150lbs of rock?

I know some folks have made their own rocks so if anyone can give me an idea that would be great.

I spend some time google-fu-ing your way around some forums. DIY rock can take months to fully cure to a proper PH and it take a good bit of artistry and luck to get really porous pieces.

That being said if you are in no rush I wish you luck!

I've looked into this, as some very cool, not to mention cheap rock can be made. However as alex said, the months of curing wasn't for me, and I can be artistically "declined" when it comes to these things. Mine would probably come out as a non-porous blob.

However I too wish you luck and definitely post pictures if you decide to go through with it.

There are many recipes throughout the internet, just search. you can do tweeking as you wish.

one of the best recipes i've seen uses very large salt crystals that dissolved over time and leave it very porous but ends up costing much more than LR and WAY more and Dry.

Thank you for your responses, the months of curing is not an issue for me as it will take me a while to get my tank up and running anyways.

I'll keep searching the net and will certainly post pics if I go through with it

well that didn't take long lol...

I think I'll order GARFs aragoready mix, 10 pound bag makes 45 pounds of rock only $29 a bag, by the time I'm done purchasing every I'd need I'd be close to that if not over

This will take a lot of the guessing out of the equation too as the bags are pre-mixed

I'll start a new thread and post pics once I get started
