Gouramis for the most part are community fish.. wow. this is like digging up fossils for me.. lol. Lace Gourami, Blue Gourami, Pink or Kissin Gouramis are a good start. Are you looking at a red-tail black shark? They get territorial when they get older.. add last. Bala or black tipped sharks are fine and are not very territorial. I love bottom feeders.. after you add your six red tetras, get 3 corydoras. They're hardy, and very entertaining, and will clean up uneaten food... sometimes even come to the top for food. Schools of cardinals are nice too.. like eight swimming around.. creates a nice scene! Clown Loaches are my favorite.

BTW you'll know when you need a pleco. The tank will be all of a sudden covered in algae. Whe you add one, it most likely will be gone the next day.

as far as sharks i was considering either bala or black tipped sharks. but like i said i actually do not have the knowledge of what fish can be grouped together. its only a 38 gallon tank so I'm concerned on how much variation i could have in the tank..

but the gourami's i'll really have to do research on those. cuz all i know is how they look so far. i'll wanna find out more about them as a i consider what will be in the tank after cycling.

and are u talking about adding the corydora's during the cycle. or after the cycle. because i was planning on hopefully putting a 2 catfish and 1 plecto in at some point during the cycle for the clean up crew.

one main concern i always have is over stocking the tank. and making sure i have enough of each fish so they can have good strive. which I'm sure everyone goes through that setting up their first large tank. which 38 gallon's isn't large. but compared to my 10 gallon it is pretty large :)

alright one question someone has brought up to me in person. do you guys think 6 red tetra's would be to much fish to add at once? to begin the cycle? or would 6 be fine?

well i'll add 4. at the most 5. lol its hard to chose without over choosing. :) but if i ad 4 and if they all stay alive that'll leave room for the other fish besides a pleco and couple bottom feeders in the long run (bottom feeders and pleco is a garenteed list i have so far after cycling is done)
