I just got two clams today I got a gold maxmia and a Derasa clam for about 70 dollar they both are about a inch to a inch and half. I will post picture of them in a few but I have a few question.

---I want to do a freshwater dip on both of them first just to kill off anything I don’t see, how long can I dip them for? And/or is it suggested.
-- This may be a hard one my tank is 40 gallon. The only other coral in my tank that I can see that uses Cal would be my two frog spawn and a brain. How often do you think I will have to dose then tank with Cal with the two clam added? The reason I ask is is trying to figure out if it would be worth it to get a Cal reactor for such a small tank.
-- the max should be placed at the highest point in the tank with low water movement and the Derasa on the sand bed?

You can dip them for up to 10-15 minutes, in water that is the same pH and temp. But I would not unless your are treating for PMD.

I would not start the Maxima at the highest spot initially.

For dosing both clams are small enough that should not be an immediate concern, but you will only know for sure by testings the Ca/Alk/Mag routinely.

As they grow with the other corals and you develop a lot of coralline dosing will probably be needed but only after you get some idea of your consumption.

ok, the lighting i will have them under is a 4bulb t5 that sits about 2" from the top of the tank and the clams will be 14" deep. will that be good ?

i have them slow dripping now

They should be fine with your lighting. Derasa should be on the sand and the maxima on the rocks.

Agree with what's been said. I don't normally dip clams except for PMS treatment as mentioned above. I normally do a Hypo dip (1.009) as apposed to strait RO...it's easier to match pH that way. As for time of dip 15-20 is what I normally do...but I have accidentally left them for much longer with no ill effects.

I just did a standard 30-45 minute bag float water swap acclimation on mine and they're doing great, thinking of buying a crocea from divers den to match my maxima and derasa!

Really too bad, but yes pistol will do that and I had issues with mine and clams until I put the clams on rocks.
