    your getting great advice on the thread IMO ( test kits are essential IMHO)

    just in case you are not sure
    dont raise the SG to quickly as that can also cause stress/shock to corals
    so just top off the tank with salt water instead of fresh water for a period of time, until the SG gets to 1.024 - 1.026

    i would suggest using RODI water first from the LFS. with that tap water, comes nothing but bad. remember your keeping water, not a reef. with the size of your tank, it shouldnt be to expensive to start with that. or you could get an RO sys and use it for drinking water as well.
