Of the three main species, maxima, derasa, and crocea which will do best on the sandbed? Also I have a coarse not a fine sand does this matter?

Thanks for the quick response. I just upgraded to MH they sit about 10" above the water surface and I think from the SB to the surface is like 20" so is that enough light? Also would a clam be irritated by an aggressive coral such as my hammer or bubble?

Crocea's are rock boring clams so unless you put something solid underneath them, they won't do well on sand. Deresa, squamosa, gigas and hippopus do better on sand.

Corals can sting clams so place it as far away as possible from anything that has long sweepers.

And the grade of sand is not too crucial?

I don't think it will matter but to tell you the truth, that question has never been addressed as far as I know so I'm not really sure! I'm guessing that it will be fine.

I agree with amcarrig, crocea and maxima clams are actually found buried into rock in the wild...not on the sand and they don't do well there.

    yep, Matthew is right.

The ones that like to be on rocks are maxima and crocea. The rest like lower light and sand.

Now many clams will deal with sand, my crocea is happy as a, uh a clam on the sand, and so is the maxima I have on the sand.
