We need your help in identifying commercial spammers

As many of you are aware, the site has recently been experiencing a problem with very determined spammers - No names please, we do not want to do their advertising for them

There are companies operating now on many of the web based forums

These companies often have multiple employees, and some of those employees have multiple accounts on forum sites

These people often make themselves obvious from 1st post
with either a blatant "Look at my product" type post or in some cases, just a link to their own business site in signatures etc

These people are a problem, for obvious reasons

Thanks for the heads up, reported posts to all those people, members and sponsors alike, who help us to keep this site a spammer free zone

we need more help because some of these company based spammers are
now learning to avoid the obvious "spam" review of product or the equally obvious link in signature and are instead monitoring the threads, and then trying to solicit business with statements like "I have a spare one of those I can hook you up with, PM me"

occasionally , these may be posts from genuine hobbyists, who do not have enough time or posts to be able to use the for sale forum, and thus try the opportunistic approach on threads
but in many, many cases, these are actually commercial sellers, who try to disguise that fact, by only letting people know about 1 or 2 items they have

naturally if business of this nature is conducted by PM, 3 reef members and Moderators will be unaware of it

so we need your help as follows

please do not encourage these people by responding on threads to their offers

please report any PMs you receive from people offering to sell you spare items


if these people find that they cannot actually do any business on this site
then hopefully they will stop trying

 

No problem with doing that Steve. I love this site, have since the first day I logged in to it. I do my little part to help Matt keep the ball rolling, "they" should too.

 

I've noticed a surprising amount of these types of post over the past few days, I'll do my best to help out as much as I can.

 

yeah vivid fourms has a spammer thats advertising wedding dresses. I saw one of their posts on here to.

 

Yea its unfortunate.. bump to get the word out. I'll keep my eyes peeled!

This is the only reef forum I belong to and I hate spammers. I'll keep my eyes open as well.

 

+1 to you again Steve! Just like where I work - it makes my DAY to ruin a telemarketer's day or a spammers opportunity to ruin the best saltwater forum out there!
