You are right to be concerned about stress.

I'll write it up this evening.

A long post via mobile is difficult...

The power came back around midnight, but the Internet just came back....finally...

OK, to reduce stress caused by the fresh water dip we did the following...(first we read all that we could find on fresh water dipping fish right here on 3Reef)...so this is how we applied what we read:

Setting up: I purchased a new pH probe and meter for this. Cleaned and calibrated the pH probe in the tank and calibrated the new pH meter. Tested all parameters of the tank and focusing on pH & alk.

Started by trapping the fish and holding in the display tank, then in a medium size bowl (about 6 to 8 cups) added RO/DI water, an air pump and stone to assist mixing and aerating, then added supper buffer to get the pH and Alk as close as possible to the tank's current reading, heat/cool until the temp was equal to the tank's (getting the temp correct took almost as much time a catching the fish did). Moved the fish (in our case it was our flame angel and power blue tang) into the bowl, set the timer for 10 minutes.....

Panicked at about 7 minutes as both were laying on the bottom of the bowl...not moving...thought we killed them...BUT, when I tried to fish them out with a net they both took off...finished waiting the 10 minutes, netted them and put them right back into the display tank...

They both lived happily ever after....

This was our first experience using a fresh water dip and of successfully treating ich.

Lessons learned, This requires an investment of time, a bit more water would likely have been more stable, as we spent a significant amount of time getting fresh water pH, alk, & temp where we wanted it and stabilized, about an hour, or likely I was just too picky.

If you decide to do a fresh water dip...please post the processes you use...thanks joe

Hey Woods- Just wanted to let you know that I started to use Zoe and Kent Marine Marine C and they seem to be working. I soak dry food in the Zoe and I add the Marine C directly in to the tank being very careful not to over dose. You might want to give this a try.

My frest water dip method is not very elabroite. I just use a specimen cup like the ones in the pet store, fill that with ro water , bring the ph to normal with some buffer, then float that in my sump for about any hour or so to bring temp to temp of tank. Throw fish in when ready wait for about 7-8 min then when done serve I mean put him back in tank. It takes the spots off but past that the ick will reattack.

so today noticed tang doing well. Spots are still plenty and feeding the same not much has changed. Tang also seem to be calming down. I think he might be getting use to the routine. Hopfully this helps. No changes with gobie either, he is still as healthy as a ox.

tang passed on due to the ick on the 2nd. Next ick attack I will have a hosiptal tank set up. I am now conserned with buying a new fish. The fire gobie never contracted Ick but I think I might still wait a few weeks before adding anything.

K+ for you loss and efforts in nursing him back to health. I too just lost a tang. My desjardini sailfin tang lost his battle with ich this morning. I have been treating food with garlic and Zoe, and adding vitamin c to the water so everyone else in the tank looks good.

Again- Hats of to you for your efforts.
