....found perticularly interesting the passage where it mentions that larva raised in sunlight develop darker pigmentation than under artificial lights....im far from being able to raise my little ones and winter is at the door here, but this is something im defenitly intreaged to test out, iv always been more attracted to the darker colored clowns.

How old is the female approximately? Are you using the paper bound Joyce Wilkerson?

 

both my clowns were the first fish i got roughly 3 years ago, they were the same size and evetually one turned into the mean housewife we see today.

i kept my old setup for roughly 1 year before upgrading, they never spawned in my old setup (despite it having more coraline and a sump) nor did they spawn the first year in my NEW set up. this summer was the first time iv seen clown eggs...awesome...

i got a 20 buck digital copy from itunes, im a fan of paper books despite my environmetalist belifes but i needed to get my teeth in this book asap hence why i opted for the digital copy. (pretty jelly of your signed copy btw)

EDIT: i had quadricolors in my old set up who hosted these little guys but they would stroll from nem to nem never really "sticking" to one. its only in my new setup and the addition of the cody a while back that they have settled in, mind you they tested several of the nems i had (had a huge green one that got skimmed and killed a few fish if you remember) she use to hang around that one but would also vist my orange BTA. eventually she decided her and her husband had to move in with condy. which is really strange as its not one of their natural hosts

 

and holy moly i cant believe its already been three years.....

 

It was one of those book purchases that I do not even remember the reason why, Mrs. Wilkerson was sitting there signing copies. It was only years later after referencing it quite a few times did I realize what a great basic resource it was. Some information is definitely becoming dated now though, especially the nutritional aspect. There was a time when you had rotifers and nothing else and if you crashed your rotifiers you were just out of luck.

The section on care of breeding pairs is interesting. Long lighting hours, reduction in Sg an feeding them like little piggies.

Once I get my set up the way I want it again, I am thinking of buying a nice designer male and giving it another go.

i think clowns are a must if the system allows it, and even if its risky for corals and or the death of the nem itself an anemone to host them is imperative. going back to my old setup there was a time when they were confused and tried making a torch coral their home, ended up stressing/killing it, so a nem is as an equal gamble IMO.

aaaaaand again, they laid a huge batch this time . also i caught them in the act, VERY interesting to observe. i thought they predominately mated at night but they were going at it a noon 0_o.....exhibitionists....

the picture of the oviposter i posted is incorrect, i see the real oviposter now...crazy

Aw, you've gone green water on us. Say good bye to corals and hello to 10 gallon tanks with flower pots. Nicely rigged.

 

Right little update: its now day 5 since i was able to capture 7 larvae.....grim catch.... Out of the 7 3 have survived thus far. They are gaining color and their bellies have turned silver. Next stage (tomorrows feeding) will be nuplii. Wish us luck!
