Top 3 ways of dealing with cyano

I feel like I never win mine. Thinking about going bare bottom on the new tank to combat this.

 

This is a fish I have wanted from the very start but I decided early on to go topless. I may get one for my 120 when it's up and running.
Lately, I've increased flow and there is minimal cyano.
So far, the best idea I've seen is siphoning into a filter sock and running gfo, though it probably take a combination of adjustments to keep it under control.

 

Hey Todd, thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to meeting lots of cool people who reef! And sharing knowledge and experiences. When my system went threw my new aquascape change, that took a month or so, I had alot of liverock out of my system and in different tanks off to the side. It was a shock to my system and I started experiencing some cyanobacteria.my system didn't like the missing liverock and that I took out some of circulation pumps out to put in the other tanks.along with the stiring up of nutrients from the sand being totally disrupted. I'm glad to say everything was added back to my system and the cyano is going away! I just wanted to share that the diamond goby took care of any cyanobacteria forming on the sandbed. You just can't beat the work ethics of these awesome gobys! Sand is always clean!

 

Billme, I just wanted to add that I have successfully kept one in my display for about 5 years without it jumping out.at first I eggcrated the top. Then I hung eggcrated around the perimeter for a year or so. But it always got in the way. I ended up just removing it all. My goby has never jumped out since. Hope he likes his home enough to stay in the tank and that I haven't jinks myself. So, so far so good!

 

How big is your tank? I have a40b and have had no jumpers yet. That gives me hope for the 120.

 

To what (combination) do you attribute your success in not having cyano?

 

150 gallons. I just had one jump out of a 40 breeder during the aquascape. He must of hid in a piece of liverock when i transfered it out of the 150 and when he didn't find sand he was forced to jump! It sucks losing a fish that way. Trust me if I knew he was in there I would of got him back to his sandbed! Im currently waiting to pick up 2 new ones from my lfs. They should be in during the next week. hope these stay put.

 

Any updates? Cyano still gone? And adverse effects?
