right well i have always had an interest in clams but have always been scared poopless of keeping them due to their (apparent) fragility. ITS TIME TO FACE THE FEAR!!!

i currently have a 450 liter tank running 2 day t5s and 2 night t5s my tank dimensions are 150 cm long, 50 cm wide, and 60 cm deep (59x19.6x23.6)

would my T5s be enough for a maxima or would i be better off with a derasa, i would clearly prefer placing my clam on my sand bed than having those disrespectful zebra turbo snails and hermits knocking it off my rocks.

light go on a 715 and off at 2130

    merci!

Some might say that might not be enough light, but i'm no expert, i'll let the others chime in.

By 2 night time lights do you mean moonlights or actinics?

Yes and no. Off the sand bed with your 4 t5's being 24 inches away they will not receive enough light, however if you can place em on a rock much higher up you could do it. I have 7 clams in my 33 gallon tank. I find them very hardy, they help cleaning water, I feed em everyday and have mh and they love it.

I would go with a Derasa as their light need is less than a Maxima.. Once they are established in your aquarium they are quite hardy! Good Luck!

    sorry acti, indeed.

you say they help filter water thats actually one of my main reasons to get one, it does seem derasa need less light hence my hesitation.

iv read they take about a couple days to anchor to a rock or substrate any tips one how to keep it stable till it laches on?

Derasas wont anchor to anything, just place on sand bed.
