I thought I would take a moment to give better guidance on the 2010 3reef DIY Video Contest and try to help you win it!

    Tips:

    • Take your time! You have the whole month (April) to polish your video. If you rush it, it will look rushed.
    • Stay focused. If you stick to a few really good tips that helped your aquarium or steps to make something, it will be a lot more effective than one that appears to be rambling.
    • Take time to edit and polish. It doesn't have to be made for TV quality, but a little polish goes a long way and will have a bigger impact on viewers overall.
    • Add sound - think about narrating it yourself too. The more personal often is better. A silent film will not have as much impact.

Take a look at winning videos below for ideas....

NOTE ON MULTIPLE VIDEO ENTRIES -

Someone asked me about doing multiple videos on the main thread. They meant multiple different entries. I denied that. However, I will allow multiple videos on the same project. In other words, if your video goes longer than 10 minutes (youTube limit) you can break it up into multiple parts as we have done so in the past. Then we will vote on your project as a whole, not on individual videos. However it is my personal belief that 10 minutes should be long enough. I think it is better to boil it down to the best 10, rather than drawing it out. But if it is a big project, maybe I am wrong. Your call.

    NOTE 2 -

I will allow redos as long as your final video is submitted before the deadline for submissions. If you are not 100% happy with your video, I would personally not submit it until you are however to be more effective.

Corals to be determined down the road... 3reef gear would be shirts and bumper stickers.
