I did a 25g water change and replaced the bioballs (which i was told could harbor nitrates) with live rock. Seems definitely better now.... Both calcium and alkalinity are high but balanced (meaning both are about equal, not one is high and the other is low) Calcium read 500+ and alkalinity 15.7+

they should drop on their own.what salt are you using and what are you using to test your water?

I've been buying my water premixed from Coral Logic and I had them test it. They used a Saliferts test kit

No, no dosing at all. I will say that I had a dip in pH a few days ago and used Kent's dkH buffer for one dose but I don't think it could of raised it that much??? The guy i bought the tank from had its as a fowlr so I'm sure he wasn't dosing it.

CL told me that it was off the charts and asked if I had been dosing. they said, like you that it will lower down eventually... I was told if they are "imbalanced" it could cause water issues but since they are both high its not as bad... True?

well I have been measuring it every few days since i bought a used tank and don't know how other people keep their stuff. It was at 8.4 for like 3 weeks then several days ago it went to 8.8 and then the next day went down to 7.6. I attribute it to the RODI water I top off the tank with. I have it stored in a sealed container and the lack of O2 lowered the pH of the water thus making my tank fluctuate.
