so i have this newer frag of purple acropora that has been doing great but lately is has been having the same polyp exstention i am used to seeing. all my others are fine and nothing is happening to them.
i just added a new led light fixture about a month ago so i dont think that is the problem, although i did get a new coral beauty a week ago and although i have not seen it nip at any corals could that be the reason or is it something else?

I have found that expecting the same PE from all Acropora in a tank is a leading cause of insanity.

Different types of Acropora mean different types of PE.

But just to rule out another cause you should look at:
    1. Water Chemistry
    2. Presence of pest aka Red Bugs
    3. Flow
    4. Near by corals.

Second leading cause of insanity is moving Acropora around to find the magical PE location.

As long as pest are not present, water chemistry is in line and color and growth is good, you may want to just wait it out.

    Good Luck

I have one smooth skin acro in my tank that has never shown it's polyps. It's encrusting away, however.

$20 says it will if you look with a flashlight in the middle of the night (and after a period of darkness). :p

I'll set the alarm lol. I will say that there are some polyps on the encrusting tissue, just none on the branch.
