Hey Skytech, you should never add anything without knowing the levels in your tank. For ex. dont add cal when you dont know the cal level. The only additive I put without checking is trace elements and even with that, the levels do get checked. Trace elements have iodine, mag, strontium etc...
You need to get a good multi-test kit.

BTW, the adding of supplements is on a need basis. You must first find out how much your tank absorbs before adding.

Ahh Crud, I have the basic tests just need to get the reef ones all I can seem to find around here are API or tetratest. I can get some Ca or Phos Cu test from the LFS but no reef masterkits. Guess I need to shop online for these. I have not added any suppliments yet just wanted to know if I should if the tests were low.

Take some water to your LFS if they are any good they will run some tests for you for free. After all you could be dropping some serious money in there if you havent already so they could at least do you the favor of running some water tests.

I haven't seen any master kits for reef parameters. You will need to get each separate. I just switched over to start using Elos from a recommendation of Jason McKenzie and the are easy to use and much more accurate.
