shimming my unlevel tank

as some of you probably read last night my tank is slightly unlevel left to right and it is bothering me. it is slight so im not worried about it causing an issue. can i shim the tank slightly to correct it? i do not want to shim the stand where it meets the floor. i do not want to put abnormal pressure on one side of the stand as it is a walmart stand anyway. can i shim the right side of the tank where it meets the stand? or just leave the thing alone.

 

I would think that putting it under the stand would be better than directly under the tank. But unless it's over 1/2 an inch or so I would just leave it. (the half an inch is just a guess..just saying that if it isn't much I wouldn't worry.)

 

no where close to half an inch. quarter inch at the most. im just picky when it comes to my aquarium lol.

 

I'd leave it if that's all it's off,my floors aren't level,but i keep my waterline just above the trim and that's how i know when to top off the tank.So i guess you can say i use the unlevelness of my floors to my advantage.

I would shim between the stand and the floor.

How big of a tank is it? And it is a glass tank right?

 

As others have stated, shim between the stand and floor. Shimming between the tank and stand would cause stress in the middle of the tank since it won't have it's weight evenly dispersed on the stand.

Both of my tanks are slightly off level but you can't tell with all of the surface agitation.

 

55 gallon and yes it is glass.

 

I would get a long and a short level if you can and put it on the top of the tank in all directions and see if you have a low CORNER or a low SIDE. That's important to know and as it was said before shimm under the stand only. I still think you should pump a lot of the water into a tub, then shimm up the tank until it's level and then put the water back in and watch the level to see if it's settling ok.
Look, you made a mistake here and luckily it can be resolved for next to nothing out of pocket. Most of the mistakes in this hobby are costly so your getting off cheap!
