I have a 36g FW tank, and I have had it up and running for about 3 months. I have 3 tiger barbs, 3 Denison's barbs, a black veil angelfish, a rainbow shark, and a plecostomus.

I normally take a few minutes to look at all the fish every day. About 5 minutes ago I was doing inventory of the tank and noticed that one of the tiger barbs has severe damage to his fins.

I read all the posts on this forum about how bad tiger barbs are at nipping and how I should probably have 5 or 7 (gotta keep them in odd numbers) to reduce nipping problem.

    • With the list of fish that I have, do you think the Tiger barb is to blame?
    • I noticed the Denison's barb and the angelfish nipping at him as well.
I do know that when one fish is hurt it encourages the others to join in. So, what should I do? If I ultimately decide that I don't want tiger barbs in my tank anymore, where can I take them?

Also, should I have any problems with a BGK if I have the Denison's and Tiger barbs removed?

I know that this is a lot of questions, but I would rather ask it all in one post then spam this forum with 5 individual ones.

    Thank you all very much.

Most likely the barbs are to blame. You could try putting the injured barb into a hospital tank while its fins heal. A good antibiotic will help keep infection away. The tank is probably a little small for the barbs and is creating additional aggression issues.

Take the fish to your LFS if you don't want them.

    BGK?

The tank would be too small for a Knifefish as it will outgrow it easily.
