So i added a Kole Tang to my QT which has been up for a couple months so i know it is past the cycle. He has been hiding since i acclimated him which i used the drip method and it took right about an hour. I have not seen him eat which i have given him ick shield and also Ocean nutrition green algae. Today when i checked on him he was laying down in a pvc joint. The nitrates were close to 10 yesterday. Temp is stable Salinity is 1.025.

I also was using prazipro preventatively.

He actually looks just fine but he will not run from the net when I stuck it in there looking for a reaction. I was thinking of doing a partial WC but i don't know if this will help or hinder.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could help md. I love kole tangs but that is one fish I have never had success with for some odd reason. Over the years, I've tried three times and each time I got what appeared to be a very healthy and eating specimen. Over time, their swimming slowed, they started to hide and wouldn't eat. Eventually, ending in them dying. I wish I knew why. I hope yours turns around!

I dont know there is any magic advice with this. I know I once had that issue and think it was too much prazipro - so with that said I would do the water change right away. Refill your QT tank with water from your DT.

How long did you have them before this happened?

Anyone else have any experience with Kole Tangs, successful or not successful?

He was acclimated on Friday and looked good the last 2 days, yet didn't see him eat anything, does this seem like it would be an acclimation issue?

So he didn't make it. Still would like to hear from other Kole Tang keepers to see if maybe there was something i could have done different. I would like to have one in my tank but i am not a fan of killing fish so i don't know if i will try again at this point.

Not sure on the fish side of things. But I would say something was off in your QT. How big of tank? Where you using newly mixed saltwater for water changes or DT tank water? How often were the water changes occuring? In my time of using a QT, I did one small water changes everday (one gallon/day). I never used my DT tank water it was always new. I never cycled my tank and only set it up for the time the fish was in it until I felt its was time to move. I never treated for disease unless something was present that I could visably see. To get my tank started I would throw in a sponge that is in my DT to QT to help with the bacteria process.
