If you could raise cleaner shrimp, you'd be famous LOL.

Well the clown died. It died in the night and so by morning the shrimp had pretty much destroyed the evidence. This was expected because he was getting progressively worse. This clown suffered through my ammonia spike so I am still thinking that the storm has passed. I'm still waiting for the UV sterilizer which will run for at least a couple days before I try another fish. Everything else still looks good, the wrasse is as active as ever.

The ironic thing here is that the only fish I ever bought from a big chain pet store is the only fish that is still alive... must have gotten used to bad water. :-X

Okay, can you do us a favor? Fill out the ASAP form at the top of the thread lists, you can find it here: http://www.3reef.com/forums/asap/asap-please-start-here-54456.html#post511150

Fill it out as best you can, and give us a pictures of your tank and sump. Something is amiss.

With all due respect that would be a waste of my time and yours. I understand the importance of listing my parameters when I am asking for help regarding a water quality issue, but ultimately I think the problem has been solved. I believe there was (maybe still is) some kind of parasite in my system, combined with, and possibly as a result of, a nitrite spike.

With the nitrite spike gone, and no way for the parasite to reproduce, at this point I really don't need further assistance with this issue. I appreciate it though.

Great thread. I'm in the same boat as you can't keep anything alive. But for some reason I can keep and gbta alive. I just lost a yellow head goby that lasted me two weeks and a royal Grammy that last a week. both eat like crazy. But good luck with the new set up. Also have a very similar set up as your.

Just an update. First I grounded the system, then I added a UV sterilizer. I ran the sterilizer for about a week and last monday I picked up some kind of Yellow and Purple Wrasse. He seemed to do well, all the water parameters still looked normal, so 3 days ago I picked up another clown. As of right now everything looks good. In fact, the wrasse had a split tail fin that I didn't notice at the shop and that has actually healed up completely in just the few days in my tank. So I see that as a good sign. The clown also seems to be good as well but so did the last pair before they died, so who knows, we'll see. I'm optimistic.

IME, and I learned the hard way, you should be quarantining your fish before adding them to the DT. I know it's a pain, but it's so much easier to add a fish to the DT that should be disease free, and also that you know is eating what you feed it.
