Go buy a battery powered air pump at your LFS.

A small generator for the future would be a good idea.

+1 for the battery powered air pump. Also if the tank temp starts to rise, float frozen water bottles or bagged ice helps keep it cool.

I work in the IT field and we put battery backups on everything! I actually have one on my aquarium equipment, for that reason alone. (I happen to have a few spares ;) ) Some of the least in expensive one's around $60 or so, wont give you longevity with power, just enough time to find another resource they will give you about 30 minutes or so. I have am decent one that will last for about an hour to an hour and a half. This is just another option. I am new to this so i would go with what the other people have suggested! Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks,

    Joe.

I have a small gas powered generator for when the power goes out. its not automatic - its a manual start up process - but with it, I can at least keep some pumps going to keep the water moving....along with the house refridge and the TV/Satellite dish. Money well spent for the piece of mind - even though - thankfully - I rarely have to use it.

Also I've heard that Wally World has battery powered air pumps in the fishing section. Used to keep live bait alive.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In the future if you loose power and have no generator you can

    1. Aerate the water by siphoning a gallon out and pour it back into the tank about a foot about the water line. Do this once every hour to every couple hours.
    2. Many have gas hot water heaters, you can siphon a couple gallons out into gallon jugs, fill a sink or a bathtub with hot water and let the jugs sit in the water until the water warms and then add it back into the tank.

Hope that helps in the future.
