    Hi all
After getting my water parameters all on track and consistent i seen a ex-display tank for sale very cheap, much better condition then present 2nd hand one i owned, so decided to invest in it, it has centre weir and opti white glass, plus very minimal scratches unlike mine, the only thing is i plan on building the stand for it because it never came with one, but i want to build it longer then the tank so i can house a larger sump,

The new tank is 22" high+22" wide+30" long

the stand i have started making consists of 2x4 lumber, actually 1 and half by 3 and half inch,

it measures 22" wide but 40" long thats 5" wider each side longer then the tank, is this possible and will i need centre support at the from as well as the back,

any help will be much appreciated, i presume it will be heavy is this overkill for
    a tank this size?

No center supports are needed tank is not wide enough to need center supports. The only thing I would do is when you make your top of the stand. You will have space to put a piece of 2x4 in between the top and bottom braces making the corners 4x4 that will be overkill and you will be fine. It will give you a flat surface to work with when wrapping the stand. I would leave the back completely open.

Like Rolo said you won't need center supports. You will want the top to be supported by 2x4s directly underneath it so the screws aren't taking the stress of the weight. The screws are only there to hold things together.

You shouldn't need center supports but the more I think about it putting 2x4 uprights right under the corners of the tank for extra support wouldn't be a bad idea. How big is the sump you are using?

I will put 2x4 uprights on the rear corners, none on the front, that way i can upgrade my sump eventually, but for now all i have is a 15"wide, with this design i can replace it upto a 30" wide,

just gotta screw support beams on now before adding quarter inch plywood, pics to follow shortly,

Thanks for the help so far

Frame is finished other then the 2 support legs on the rear under the tank corners, i will finish those off tomorrow along with the 1/4" plywood im attaching to the top and bottom, whats the best way to attach the plywood, screws/countersunk or nails, also before i place the tank should i place styrofoam before hand?

Im very happy with it so far, and i want to add doors too, will it have to be water tight?, im undecided to paint or stain it yet, but i do want it to be water protected some what, are there any good products for that?

    Thanks guys and girls

rubberized paint, epoxy paint, shower pan liner, marine quality polyurethane. Sky's the limit. Marine epoxy. It all really depends on how you want it to look. If your doing cabinet grade plywood I would stain and use marine poly on it. That way you will still have that wood grain. really depends.

    Thanks,
Not graded wood, no grain at ALL
What should I use to attach the plywood with?
And should I use foam under the tank glass?
