Its safe to say that you have got a hell of a deal here with your equipment. Looking forward to seeing the new shots of your reef!

Congrats on the new purchase, Grim!

Just so you know, I never pay attention to ISO, like ever. I only use the D90 with the A (aperture priority) setting. Still needs to be tweaked with WB and exposure compensation, but I let the camera do the rest. (you know how decent they come out)

Those micro lenses are great for practicing manual focusing (since they wont auto focus with yours unfortunately) as well in my opinion, even tho I dont have any hands-on experience.

Just take a bunch of photos of one or similar object changing the F number, WB, exposure compensation, etc. Compare those photos and choose the one you like the most. Find out why it looks more appealing to you than others. Remember the setting and apply it with similar situation later. Photography is all about one's subjectivity after all. One you think is the best photo is the best of all!

Make sure you share them with us!!

I plan to shoot in full manual mode. My mentor is a purist about shooting only in raw and only on manual. I'm also a little crazy about precision and control.

I also offered the best photographer in my reefclub a frag pack in exchange for a lesson! We'll see what comes of it.

Then you are a step ahead of the game Grim. Photography this way is substantially more difficult but the results can be much better than the preset modes. Especially with aquarium photography when dealing with such blue light. Shooting this way also feels more rewarding (to me atleast) because you know the image that is the final product is all from your eye. The preset modes are great but the white balance seems to be way off usually. Oh and speaking of white balance, I always shoot aquariums in the cloudy setting. This allows for your blue tones to be deeper and your corals's color is usually much more accurately portrayed. If you mess around with it a bit Im sure you will see exactly what I mean. Im about 99% percent sure that our cameras have the same interface and software.

Awesome deal, congrats on the macro lenses.

Glad to help and you are right on it being an investment.

    Definitely

Is there any way to get a better representation of what it is going to look like through the Live view.. My pictures look NOTHING like they do in the view finder or in live view..

Generally what you see is looking through the lens and not what the sensor sees. You have to learn what the shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed do so you can get a good idea of what will work in each situation. Use the in camera review to fine tune your shots when you can. Take notes for each lens so you will be able to capture a good shot without fine tuning.
