My DIY sump thread

The Biggest problem to watch out for is the sump overflowing. The DT can be down, no problem while your running around finding a temp power source We have that problem a lot here in Oregon.

I plan the basement sump I have, and adding a 40B frag tank into the system as well.
I have a 55 I'll probably use for my mixing chamber- then maybe make that my sump.

As long as your outflow to the sump has more potential than your total inflow- the DT stays level, and you'll need to add SW to the sump to get it at the proper level. Taking into account a power out, so you need some extra room on top of the sump for the back siphon.
And, as has been said, you should have a siphon break hole hnear the water surface in the return to DT line to break the back siphon in a power out.

 

YES!! ;D I did say that!! For most of us we automaticly take that into account and sometimes we forget to check when we add that new gizmo with a siphon tube and NO break :-X been there and DONE THAT!! Moma still nags me about the carpet damage Just a reminder to all.

 

I think this is my issue. The intake is too
Low in that corner in my DT? The water level needs to rise in there about two inches. Is my fix somehow raising up that intake pipe? Took a pic not sure if it helps..

 

Actually, that is a perfect height for your intake. I would not mess with it at all IMO. Why do you say it is your issue? Or better yet, what is your issue?

 

Lol we taking fish tanks?!!! I can hear the water flowing over the tank into that corner piece from my bedroom! Ill deal with it if that's how it's supposed to be.

 

LOL, sure let it all out! But yes, you should hear water flowing. Durso in the overflow (which you have) and reverse durso in the sump will get it about as quiet as it will get though.

OK, been up and running for a little while now. LR is in DT tank. My water levels are looking good. I added a little Damsel to see what happened and he's still in there since Friday doing fine. My point? The little guy keeps getting sucked over to where my corner section is where my return and drain are located. Also if you look at the pic above where this is located, I unknowingly broke off the little piece of plastic on the divider that goes there and breaks off in case I put my return there. Looks like any of my small fish are going to end up back in that drain area behind my cutout? Do I have too much flow?
