I know this is an old post but I had a question so i will bring it back.

I have one male and like and idiot i bought him before doing research. After getting him settled i read that you have to feed them meaty food a few times a day. Its a pain in the ass. He wont take pellets or anything but frozen food. Is this accurate, or can I stop with the frozen for a couple days and go with just pellets to make him hungry enough to eat the pellets?

he will not eat pellets, he will eat brine, mysis, blood worms, any meaty frozen food they are carnivores, i feed mine once a day he's the oldest fish in my tank but, i do feed alot when i feed. he's very healthy.

Not necessarily true. Mine eats pellets. Buy very small pellets and mix them in with your mysis over time.

that was the question? i have had my male for years and i feed pellets to my tangs all the time that lyretail has never one time ate one. but he has never had to because he was hungry. it go's against his nature, he is a carnivore zooplankton eaters

If youve had it for years then it may not switch over. I wouldnt recommend with a just sudden stop, starve, switch mentality. I did mine with a mix everything in the cup, feed, and kinda adjust percentage to ween it over. I do still feed mysis and other things, I am just saying mine does indeed take pellets now.
