im not sure about the lime green algae.  does it rub off.  if you are ableto rub it off then i dont think its coraline algae.  Also, i had a hair algae problem, and i used this stuff called Marine SAT and it got rid of all of the hair algae in 5days, it says 2-4weeks but i was ripping it out by hand so i think that made the process faster.  Also, its not a chemical its a bacteria i know alot of people will not add chemicals to there tank

mine started short for a day or two then boom i had a lawn. i mean i would pull a hand ful or two out and then go to work, i would get home 8hrs later and there would be a noticable difference. i know a company that makes the Marine SAT is called TLC i got it from my LFS when i get home i will look to see if there is a phone# on it or an address and post it

Also, i think if it is encrusted on the rock and there is no hair then its coraline algae, but im rather new to this as well and am by no means an expert, so its best to let someone else, who is more experienced, answer that for sure.

Often times purple and red coralline algae appear lime colored as they begin to colonize new areas of rock. I have yet to appreciate this phenomenon yet in our tank, but I have read this in several places. The fact that you can't rub it off suggests its coralline to me.

with the lime green, it sounds like green coraline, with the discrip above, now wories, its ok

with the hairalgae, im one of the people that doesnt add anything to the tank to combat algae ;), have you done anything to the tank, ie, move the rock around, cleaned the gravel, etc, this could cause the LR to 'shed' (so to speak), also when you clean the gravel this can release some things into the water (bad thing about cc), if you test the nitrates/phosphates, it might have a reading but might not, as the algae is consuming them to grow, some thing is realesing them into the water, could also be the filter, water fall type filters have there place, but, most be maintaned in the reef, cleaned before you generally think they need cleaned, because what they are helping to take out of the water they can easily put back in ;)

we all have gone through this process, i have went through it a few times in the same tank (a diff story), what i do/did was to do water changes (GIBO) good in, bad out, i know you here this a lot, but i think it is one of the best ways to take care of most things in the home aquariums ;)

PS, if you pull the hair out, it will grow back, because when you do this it realeses the nutrients back into the tank, i would still do this, just dont get mad when you see it back in there the next day ;)

i wish my hair grew like this stuff does ;)

    glad it worked for ya

im not saying dont use this stuff, i just choose to let nature take care of her self;)

think of algae as natures way of getting the harmful params out of the water so the corals can survive, if the nutrients arnt there the algae cant grow
just like coraline algae, if there isnt any calcium it wont grow ;)
