The gentleman that now has these fish was chosen because of his success with keeping and breeding unique fish. Believe me he is giving them the best home possible.

His attempts to breed and carry on the mutation you see is a crap shoot, but honestly I believe if anyone can he will, but you may not see it for many years if ever.

The stress of the shipping added with the typical case of Brookynella that comes with wild caught clowns was his first hurdle.

There are many individuals in Asia that would have paid a much higher price for this fish.

If I remember correctly the fish have already produced offspring, Bluezooaquatics has sold a few already. They are pretty neat. Not the lightning coloration but cool to say the least.

Well the actions of this lighting clown guy make me question his logic of whether it was a impulse buy or not.

If I had that clown I would have a 100 gallon tank devoted just to the pair, so they are comfortable.

but buying the clown is not a bad idea if you could breed it and some of the babies have the lighting coloration, they could easily be sold for 500 dollars a piece.

It would be probably a year or two before the babies you sell could be bred, thus allowing you a lighting clown monopoly.

A maroon clown drop averages atleast 2000 eggs, lets say conservatively you can raise 200 of the clowns and 50 of them have lighting coloration.

clowns spawn monthly so thats 24 batches
    24 x50=1200

    1200x500= 600,000

so you just made over $500,000 dollars of profit.

even then when the second generation breeders are out there, the price will still remain around 200 dollars probably.

Hopefully at that point you have saved some lightings from the first batch you spawned. At this point they should be spawning also thus securing your lighting clown empire.

really you should easily make a couple million after 5 years or so.

of course that is assuming the trait passes linearly and not in some weird combo like electric blue jack dempseys.

The clownfish went to him because he has demonstrated that he has the skill and knowledge to care for the fish. The fish was not up for grabs by anyone that paid the price.

Anyone interested in his work and experience can find him at MOFIB.com.

We just have to hope that in a few years that the lightning maroon clown actually is spawned successfully. i would recommend what you said; keeping a pair in a 100 gallon tank or larger just for them. The only problem about breeding would be the trait being passed on. I'm only assuming that the lightning pattern is a recessive trait, and the white stripe is probably dominant. You'd probably need 2 lightning clowns to get the desirable trait, especially since I believe I saw that one guy had paired a lightning with a regular maroon.
