Well, I got tired of keeping track of expensive bulbs. Like I said, a few years back a guy on here called Omeron who I followed and admired, made the switch, and if he did I could. His tanks were always amazing. At any rate, someone has to lead the way and do the testing! No doubt this will be a debate for several more years. I have to say I wouldn't change back. Be nicey all!

Hehehe... We're cool. Not much debate left, really. LEDs are definitely the future. I'm just one who prefers to wait for the technology and the market to mature. :)

No, not at all, the loss drops off over time, sorry, I just didn't get into that. Initial loss is high, then it starts loosing efficiency slower. LED lifespan is usually measured using the L70 standard. That means that the advertised lifespan is the time it takes to loose 30% of it's output, or in other words how long until it is at 70% of it's initial output. This is usually 50000-100000 hours. So, if for aquarium use, that should be over 11 years.

I love them an probably won't ever use any other type of lighting...only upgrade as technology improves.

i couldnt find a difference when the lights were off.

    Imo
when new or better lights come out... or lights that we drool over get cheaper, most people want to upgrade again anyways. I know that ill upgrade sooner then i expect. I love my leds but dont think ill keep them for over 5 years.
