Established 65 gallon tank - up and running for 5 years now. Nothing new has been added in over 2 years but within the last month I have lost (disappeared) a sand sifting star and just yesterday a mystery wrasse. Both have been in the tank for 3+ years. About a month ago the sand sifting star dissapeared, I just thought maybe it got under a rock and died (i did search every part of the tank i could without moving the permanent rocks and could not find it). Today i came home to feed the fish and now my mystery wrasse is gone. No dead body anywhere and it was almost 4 inches long. Is it possible i have something in my live rock that killed both star and wrasse? I plan on doing a water change tonight and am going to move some rocks to see if the wrasse body is anywhere but i dont expect to find it. I have a closed top with NO gaps for the wrasse or star to climb out of.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Doubt you have a mystery killer on the loose.
Your sand sifter probably starved, buried itself and died.
As for your wrasse, who knows? Maybe it did jump? Do you have a screen?

Recently I just lost my Blue Hippo Tang and Lyretail Anthias. No idea why and where they went. Sometimes this sort of thing just happens.

When live stock die in an established tank, you won't see a body, all the critters that are in your rock and come out at night will devour it really quickly.
