Hello everyone!! I'm new to 3reef as well as to this great hobby. I'd first like to say this forum is by far the best forum I've seen.
Anyway, I'm reading everything I can get my hands on and have just rcv'd marine fishes by scott w. michael. I was also trying to find a good book on invertebrates and corals. I found, Reef Invertebrates by Anthony Calfo & Robert Fenner and Aquarium Corals by Eric H Borneman.
Are any of these books good or can anyone recommend other invertebrate books or coral books?

    Thanks,

    gAmMa

    First off,

    WELCOME TO 3REEF!!!

Ultimate Marine Aquariums by Michael Paletta gives you something to shoot for. Corals of the World by Jen Vernon will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about different species, When you eventually start fragging, look into Book of Coral Propogation by Anthony Calfo. I can't recall who wrote the Concientious Marine Aquarist (or something to that effect) but that is a good book.

you find a great bunch of people here.

I own both the books you have mentioned Reef Invertebrates by Anthony Calfo & Robert Fenner Has a lot of great information and make a great coffee table book
Aquarium Corals by Eric H Borneman. is another book I would recommend to all. It may start off as a book that is quite hard to read and you will put it down 1000 times before getting all the way through it. But you will come back to it time after time after time.

    Good luck.

Let us know in another thread your tank specs and were you are in the process.

You will find a great arsenal of information here.  Although reading books are very useful, I have found that the greatest and best way of learning on all sorts of topics in this hobby is by using this site.  Look in the forums and you will find information for issues from the most basic to the most advanced.  How people solved, prevented, and dealt with problems, problems you might encounter in your reefkeeping.  You will also find that no question is a dumb question here on 3reef.  A group of people that care about the creatures you put in your tank as much as you do, or more.  You will occasionally see a couple of "Don't kill fish Rants", and these are important to read, because they keep you from making basic mistakes and help you fight that beginner's impulse to buy, when it's not the time yet. These posts also help you develop basic principles  for reefkeeping.

Now when you get tired of reading through the beginners stuff and want to try a looksie at something more advanced,  check out www.advancedaquarist.com .

Welcome to 3reef and Happy Reefkeeping. ;D

Thanks everyone for the great advice on the books. I'll check them out as well as continue my reading in these forums.

As far as my setup, I just placed an order for a 120g, 40g sump w/skimmer. Not sure about the lighting, but I think their PC 10,000k. It's gonna be a couple wks for the tank, the canopy and stand to be made. I'll let you all know more as soon as I get more info.

    Thanks again!!!

If you want SPS, some LPS, and clams you may want to cosider metal halides.  Have fun!

Will the PC lighting not work for sps, lps and clams? I haven't picked up the lighting yet. Should I upgrade them to MH lighting?

If you plan on keeping that livestock in the future then yes. It is much cheaper to get MH lighting now vs upgrading!
