Introducing you all to Tuck...

Emma and I were out playing in the yard yesterday when my neighbor the policeman came over with a surprise for Emma. He held out his hand there was this little turtle that he thought was a red eared slider about 2" around. Emma didnt know what to do since she hasn't seen a turtle in person that close up. She was holding on to me. He sat it down in front of her, and I reached and picked it up, she saw it wasn't anything to be afraid and quickly reached out to hold it. She absolutley loves it. Im not sure if we're going to keep Tuck(if you know the wonder pets, you'll understand) or not. I did some extensive research on it because it didnt look like a red eared slider to me (you use to work in an Exotic Pet Store). When it finally stuck its head out, it didnt have the "red ear", so then I knew for a fact it wasnt one.

So after a few hours of researching, I figured out what it was. Its a male 3 Toed Box Turtle. Not the common Eastern Box Turtle, its carapice looks like a red eared slider or painted turtle in shape and size.

Awwwwwww, you should definitely keep it

 

They can live to be 100yrs with proper care, thats quite the comment for a 2yr old.

 

She can pass it on to her kids and so on and so on I assume you know what it eats?

 

This is what I read...
"Recommended diet is 60 % animal matter and 40% plant material. Earth worms, red worms, wax worms, crickets, grass hoppers, slugs are good things to feed. Safe plant matter for box turtles are grated carrots, grated squash, blackberries, blueberries, dandelion leaves, kale, pumpkin, strawberries, mulberries, tomato, zucchini, romaine lettuce, and endive. Vitamin supplements containing minerals and calcium are also recommended."
