Recently I purchased two new fish, the first one i got was an angelfish about a month ago. And the second one i got was a tang about 2 weeks ago. The only other fish are 2 clownfish and a YT damsel. Just the other day I realized some white specks on the tangs fin, I just assumed it was stirred up sand because i just did a water change. Then day by day the spots spread throughout his body. Now it is on the YT and the angelfish. I have dealt with alot of ich before and tried QT. Most of the outcome has been bad. I feel my clownfish are fine because they have had exposure to ich before so I figure that they have become immune to it.

The angel and tang have nori strips that i feed and alot of algae to graze on. I usually feed about half a cube of mysis 6 times a week skipping a day. My water params are good.

So my question is what would happen if I didnt QT the fish and left them in my DT. I feel like setting up a new QT would stress my fish out alot.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Thanks :)

if they continue to eat...they will live...IMO QT once they are established in a tank is an almost certain death sentence....just keep them fed...use garlic supplements and omega supplements...keeping them eating/fed is key...they will fight it off

Ok thanks for your quick response! I did soak the mysis in garlic yesterday and added some to the tank directly. How long did it take for your tangs to fight it off?

My Achilles still battles it off and on....he is VERY tempermental...lol But on any of the other tangs, it usually lasts a week or 2....once they clear up is when you really wanna pound em full of vitamins, so they are strong enough to fight off the next generation of ich....My other tangs havent had ich for years now

Do you have any reference articles that show Garlic, or any food additive for that matter actually kills the Ich? I think it helps them if they're not eating.

I've HT several fish, in the HT or later, nobody died. The Cupramine did rid my large Blue tang of a certain death, after I had already lost about 4 in the DT.

I know it's just a term, but if you'd used a QT with medicine from the start, you wouldn't need a HT.

    Good luck.

Well I just fed the fish. I soaked the mysis for about 10 min. and the angel seemed interested in food but didnt see him eat and the tang came out but didnt eat either. And i also replaced the nori strip (on the box it says it has garlic added) so im hoping the tang will go for that. Does ich make a fish loose its appetite?

I didnt say that Garlic or food additives kill ich.....but it does make the fish healthier and able to fight it off...which in turn will eventually starve the ich...

I've never QTd a fish...and i dont really need "articles"...but i do have a tank full of healthy fish for reference....

Listen to Kevin on ich. His advice saved my angelfish. I got rid of it in two days by simply keeping the tank stable and keeping it eating.
